So many people ask me for tips on how to lose weight. Then they tell me everything they are doing “right” - but they never tell what they are doing wrong. They are quick to recall the salad they had for dinner, but slow to tell me about the cookies and ice cream they had an hour later. They tell me about the 3 miles they ran that morning, but don’t tell me that their protein shake had more calories in it than a whopper and fries. 

It seems to me, that a lot of people are doing a lot right, yet still doing so much wrong. Why? Because they are willing to add exercise, add protein shakes, add cardio, add vitamins, etc. - but they aren’t as willing to give up anything. Whether it’s giving up one more hour of sleep to get up earlier for cardio or give up unhealthy eating habits - fitness requires sacrifice (but it’s So worth it!). 

 Fitness requires balance. You don’t have to live perfect, eat organic food and never drink a diet coke or candy bar again - but the more you do right, the less you should want to do wrong. Be honest with yourself. What are you holding back? What have you not been willing to let go of? You wouldn’t tell an alcoholic to just cut back. You wouldn’t tell them to just drink on weekends. Family members wouldn’t keep alcohol in the pantry and friends wouldn’t ask an alcoholic to meet them at a bar. While one person could have 1 drink and be fine, it may set another person into a complete self-districting frenzy. 

Food is the same way. Some people can have a treat here and there. Some people can’t have it at all. The same rules can’t apply in every kitchen. The question is: is your issue a habit - and are you feeding it, or killing it? Food is not the enemy. Our flesh is. French fries aren’t the enemy, lack of self control is. Kill the habit.

How often do we settle for good and miss out on best? This applies to anything we do. If God wanted us to just be good, He would have sent a “good” example for us to follow, not the BEST example. We will never be perfect, but I believe God wants us to aim for perfection in order to be our best. Like my grandmother told me “you can aim high and hit low, but you never hit high when you aim low”.
